LONG DISTANCE TRIALS AND RALLIES - DIRECTORY OF EVENTS - for motorcycles

??? against a date represents the 2009 past date - am awaiting 2010 date - if you know it please tell me. Many thanks.

Mail me at briansussex@antispam.hotmail.com (remove antispam first!) with corrections or additions please.

For further information about ACTC clubs and the ACTC Motorcycle Championship events - see http://www.actc.org.uk/

LDTs - as a rule of thumb these are suitable for smaller (around 250cc) singles with low gearing, reasonable torque but, essentially, a good lock to be able to manoeuvre in tight sections. Also a good idea to pick a lightish model (as you are likely to be picking it up out of the mud regularly if you ride like me!). If you are the competitive type, look at last year's results and see what bikes finished in the top 20 of the event you are interested in.

Rallies - quite a different kettle of fish. Much depends on the individual event but, most importantly, the weather! I haven't been able to do any of the rallies so if anyone can advise which ones are suitable for bigger bikes then I am happy to add the information.

Beacons Rally - the Rally will follow the successful format of the first event in 2009 - start at Llandovery Rugby Club.  The club expect the course to be more challenging than the former Red Kite Rally with more off-road forest tracks but still suitable for all big trail bikes using off-road tyres.

August 22nd 2010 The Neath Motor Club will organise the National Fred Rist Trial for Solo Motorcycles held under the ACU National Sporting Code, the Standing Trials Regulations , the Trail Bike Championship Regulations these Supplementary Regulations and any Final instructions that may be issued.   This event will be a round of the ACU – Trail Bike Championship
Regs will be published at
http://www.welshtrials.com/
Fred Rist LDT - the course will consist of approx   60-70 miles which will include Public Highway as well as off-road tracks and trails. There will be approx 30 Observed Sections. This year due to our change of date we will be able to use approx 7mls of Sarn Helen roman road so there will be even less roadwork!  This is a superb event - as tough as the Wyegate. A competitor reported back from the 2008 event that they came nearly last but loved every minute. Praise indeed!

2010 entry form here: http://www.eventdirectory.org.uk/2010 jubilee_entry_form.doc

2010 regs here: http://www.eventdirectory.org.uk/2010JBREGS.doc

Jubilee Trial (LDT) - celebrating its Silver Jubilee in 2010 so will be a two-day event! The first day will be a trail bike trial held entirely off road in Combe Sydenham woods. Three laps of 8 sections, the start and finish will be at the Raleigh's Cross inn. Each lap will be approx 3 - 5 miles.

The second day will be the traditional route of approx. 65 miles in the Brendon Hills and Exmoor and will include some public highway.  Please ensure that you bring enough fuel for the two days as there is not a fuel station close to the course. Preference will be given to riders wishing to compete on both days.

Definitely the highlight of the year - the weather is at least warmer if not drier, and the daylight is longer (v. important). Most trials will forbid walking of a section before you ride it - in the Jubilee many sections can be walked if you wish - if that doesn't tell you all you need to know re difficulty . . . the Jubilee is also much more physically demanding than the other daytime trials.
